There’s lots of different types of furniture available, and each has its own unique characteristics. Generally though you get what you pay for, and the more expensive furniture is likely to last longer. Much of the cheaper furniture uses poorer quality runners and hinges which can fail. Also drawer bottoms are may be very thin hardboard and so they are not able to support the amount of clothes we put in them.

SOLID WOOD FURNITURE.

Amongst solid wood furniture pine furniture is a popular choice due to its attractive appearance and durability. The pine is mostly grown in Europe and the commercial forests are very much a crop. Trees are planted, nurtured, and when they are the right size they are cropped and then replanted. Just like fields of wheat or barley. It’s also more affordable than the hardwoods. It has a unique look and comes in various styles, from modern to rustic.
Pine is an affordable and sustainable wood, making it a great choice for home furniture. It can also be stained or painted to create a unique look.

HAND MADE – FITTED FURNITURE IN NORTHAMPTON.

An ideal way to maximise the space in your home. It is made-to-measure and specifically designed to fit into any size room. It is tailored to your exact needs. A great alternative to the traditional freestanding pieces of furniture. And it can provide more storage (going right up to the ceiling) and organisation options. It can add a custom look to any room. It is almost always made out of some kind of manufactured boards such as laminated mdf. Although the more expensive options are available in solid wood.

Fitted furniture can be made for a range of rooms, from living rooms to kitchens, from bedrooms, to bathrooms. Because it is typically made using smooth man made materials, it is generally easier to keep clean since it doesn’t have any nooks or crannies that can trap dirt and grime.

VINTAGE & ANTIQUE FURNITURE

Well ok, we may not all need a chaise lounge, but… I have no idea why we prefer a chest of drawers made out of white melamine to one like the one on the left!

I guess i’m not really talking about fine antique furniture, but rather more what we think of as “old fashioned”. It’s often made from solid wood, (although sometimes it’s veneered plywood) such as oak, walnut, teak, mahogany, and cherry. And if you’re lucky it may be ornately carved, along with decorative hardware and intricate inlay work.

Lots of antique furniture is hand-crafted, making them truly one-of-a-kind. In addition to looking great, antique furniture is often associated with important historical events, people and places. Owning a piece of antique furniture can be like owning a piece of history. Antique furniture is also a great investment. As antiques become rarer, their value often appreciates. When shopping for antique furniture, it is important to look for signs of wear and tear, as well as any repairs that have been made to the piece. It is also important to check for authenticity. Many antique furniture dealers and auction houses provide authentication services to help ensure that the piece is indeed an antique. Buying antique furniture can be a great way to get quality at an affordable price.

PLASTIC DRAWERS.

Well, they’re a bit of a Marmite thing really… You either love them or hate them. Or perhaps you just put up with them. But they’re so cheap!

My husband uses a couple of them in his study for storing his computer bits and bobs – at least they’re tidy and out of my way!
They’re useful storage for all sorts – hobbies, pastimes, tools, and at a push you could use them for clothes too…

You can buy them almost anywhere – not just furniture shops.
